We should not use free-themes to design WordPress website due to spam, virus-attack issues. It is not designer/developer friendly to customize a free theme and they always ask for premium membership by offering very few WP features. Nonsense. There are plenty of awesome free Wordpress themes that do not have the problems you suggest and do have all the requisite features. If you need support, by all means by a premium theme, but don't do it based on fear.
