Do you use the same registrar for every domain?

Just curious. Do you use the same registrar for all your domain names? I use godaddy and namecheap. Do you have consider registrars with big discounts for first year or you only choose services that it has good reviews?

I would consider going with good reviews first. Luckily I have a single website for now. But if I plan for multiple websites in future I will be going with the same web hosts for its reliability and stability. Keeping all websites with the same provider will help me resolve any issues immediately with the same technical staff.

I have about 200 domains and I have them all at one registrar (Godaddy). I like them because most of the names I buy can be pushed to me for free and with all the coupons floating around, I usually register a name for $1.99 ....hard to beat that.

I don't think it really matters.

GoDaddy is a good and cheap domain registrar.

Yes, I prefer shuffling into registrars. I have 5 multiple domains on different-different registrars. I really don't have explanation for this, just don't like putting all the eggs in one basket.

There are people that like to have their domains at different registrars. The only benefit is not having "all your eggs in the same basket". However there is not much concern there. There are only a few actual "domain registrars". Most hosting providers are actually resellers for Enom or other big registrars. If you registrar your domain with us, and we go out of business, you can still reclain your domain through Enom.

The downfall is simply having to keep up with all of your registrars, which domains are where, account logins, etc.

This is not uncommon for people that want redundancy for their site and higher uptime. No host can actually guarantee that there servers will have 100% uptime. It's just not practical! Things break, fibers get cut, backup plans fail, its a fact of life.

To decrease the possibility of downtimes, some people will purchase a VPS or dedicated server from multiple hosts, in geographically different locations. You can use DNS failover or Geoloadbalanacing so that if one server is down, the traffic get directed to the other server.

The downfall here is you have to keep your files and database synced between the 2 servers.

I keep all my domains on the same registrar now. I used to have them spread out but it got too chaotic because I would forget about domains, or even worse, forget to pay for the domains.

Yes, if your business is ok and you have a good registrar, there is no need have your domain names in difference places.

There are two that I use. Namecheap and GoDaddy used to buy and sell a lot of domains and those are the two most people used, so I still have domains with both.

Yes dude it is not easy, but different domain extensions should be brought from different registrar as everyone has a different price. One with the lowest price should be prefered.

Using different registrars for different domain names and for different purposes can be good for many reasons.

First off, security. If someone gains access to your account at a registrar and all your domains are in that same account then there is potential to loose them all. Even with 2 factor login, it can and DOES happen more often than you would think. Having your names split between different accounts at one registrar or among different registrars can limit loses if that does happen.

Another reason that people might use multiple registrars is that not all registrars sell all the many hundreds of domain extensions that are available to register. This is another reason to use multiple registrars.

one more reason is price. There can be a big difference between registration and renewal prices of domains between the many registrars so shopping around is practical for some people.

Even with the many reason to have and use multiple registrars, I would recommend looking into any registrar and their reputation before choosing to go with them. There are a few that have some really cheap domains, yet have reputations as a bad registrar or a PITA to work with. Some even have some shady business practices. So do some research before you register a domain with any registrar.

I personally have 5 different that I use, all for a combination of the reasons above. I have used a couple dozen over about a 20 year period and have had both good and bad experiences. I have to say that in the early years it was a lot easier deciding on which registrar to use since there weren't a countless number of them like there are now!
