So, do you think it is ever worth opening a new social network, do you think they will ever take off?
They have to compete with sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and others.

All your inputs are appreciated.

If you have a great platform, budget and marketing campaigns then you could think about building a new social network.

According to me, it has too many competitors out there and you should focus on small niches for better profits.

If you had a revolutionary idea and money (lots of money) to market that idea then maybe but trying to compete on the battle field with social media monsters such as Facebook and Twitter and doing so on a shoestring budget just isnt going to work, the competition is just to fierce.

At this particular moment, people are looking/searching for the next big thing so if you come up with a great idea and platform then there's no doubt it can be a success.

So, do you think it is ever worth opening a new social network, do you think they will ever take off?
Yes.

They have to compete with sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and others.

All your inputs are appreciated.
Don't focus on getting 1 billion users when you're just getting started. Focus on getting that 1 person who'll bring traffic to your platform. Pay them if you have to maan (it's called advertising). They could be a popular blogger, youtuber, online or offline tv/radio presenter, forum admin, facebooker or well known in whatever field or platform.

Also make sure these people post content and recommend it on other online/offline portals. You see, for something like a social network you don't have to focus on how "You" can get 1 billion users. You have to focus on how other people are going to help you get to that 1 billion users.

It's all about getting those popular individuals who'll post valuable content that is engaging, informative, entertaining, educational, political etc. to keep users coming back as well as recommending the platform to others.

And how you're going to present your platform is the most crucial thing, you have to remember that when all these platforms started, they were not designed for everyone or the general public. Each one was targeting a specific group of people or niche. The users of these platforms are the ones who spread the word especially when other popular brands/people/businesses/icons start using the platform, talk about it and recommend it.

So yes a new social network in 2015 can be a success, and people are tired of using platforms like facebook and twitter they want something fresh (me included).

You dont need to compete with Facebook, Google+. etc

You need to start a Niche Social Network. For example, a social network for Gardeners. You can make money by giving affiliate links to gardening related products.

The only way to succeed in that area is creating something new, modern and cool, not simply a Facebook or G+ clone. It can be cheap and simple though, and should have to attract a certain type of user in an easy way, offering something that can't be done with any of the current social networks. For example, when Twitter appeared many people liked it because how simple was to share what they were doing compared to Facebook.

It's really quite easy and simple to start a new social network for very specific niches. You build up a core user base and slowly develop into a platform and grow. Afterall, FB started in a small niche too.

It is easy to start new social network but the main thing is the giant competitors. If you have good budget and marketing campaign then it might help you little. But the main part is to give very fresh and new as a social network. You have to do something new which are not providede by facebook, google plus, twitter, instagram and other giants. Rather than new, it also be creative and innovative and well designed also.

These are very few factors which helps you to create new social network but Its too hard to gain.
