Server location and SEO?

Has server location got a relationship with SEO ranking? for example I am targeting keywords for US audience I should put my server at US
or UK server location for visitors or ranking on google.co.uk?

I am sure that it helps, but I do not know if it play a significant role or not though.
To be on the safe side, I would put your servers where the target audience is.
