Creating Blog Posts As Entries In A Table Get Updated?

So I have a website that companies update their prices for heating oil in a table.

I planned to create blog posts here and there with the most recently updated prices (and include all company information).

The blog posts would be very, very similar to each other in content.

Will this help SEO at all or is pretty much a waste of time?

Cool concept for a site. I like it!

You have to be very careful about publishing too many blog posts that are very, very similar to each other. That can trip a quality flag with the Google Panda algorithm. I had it happen to me before and it sucks.

I think you can come up with a better system for having pages with recent oil prices by state. For example, you could create a page with a title = current home heating oil prices for New York State. Have a date stamp with todays date on the page that updates itself every day. Then just adjust that page with updated information as it changes.

I think you are much better off doing that then you are trying to create a new page for October then November then December and so on.

Also, you can help your SEO for pages you want to rank by embedding keyword rich anchor text links from other blog posts on your site pointing back at the pages you are trying to get ranked higher. That sends more link juice to those pages and also improves the relevancy score every time you use keyword rich anchor text.

The reason I even created the blog posts was to get more "content" out there... but it seemed redundant to me and I didn't want to waste my time (copying and pasting and editing each post) if it was only going to hurt me. Plus I like to "promote" the active listings in Twitter, which was another reason why I created.

I think I'll just have to go a different route with the blog posts as opposed to being redundant with what I already have available.
