Blog and forum commenting work well, but you have to remember to add value. When it comes to blogs, the best ones to get traffic from are moderated, so don't spam. Use your real name, make a relevant comment, and don't put your url anywhere except for the url box. When it comes to forums, you need to find the most popular one or two in your niche. Checking out the member list and seeing how often comments are left can help out with this. Social media is another big one. You just have to find out which site the buyers in your niche prefer. You also need to optimize your stuff properly, write about things that are on trend in your niche, and update your site often -- especially when starting out.

They are standard practice. Blog owners like approving relevant comments because it makes their blogs seem more active and helps to build credibility. If you notice that certain blogs in your niche continue to out-rank you, those are the ones I'd start commenting on first.

If you are asking how to create links for SEO purposes then I suggest you read this thread.

And just so you know, the vast majority of blog comments and forum links are nearly worthless, especially for SEO purposes. If you spend all your time doing that, you won't rank for jack squat. Then you will think that you just need more and more of them, which is untrue.

stay away from buying junk links or spamming other websites its just a waste of time.

You have to make sure that you working on websites that have contain high page rank associated to your niche.

Before we used to include article submission and social bookmarking but now we only focus on getting do-follow links from forum posting that's the best way to drive traffic and obtain a good rank on SERPS. With regards to blog commenting we don't do it match because so blogs are strict in terms of living a keyword(Link).

These days contextual backlinks play the most vital role in SEO ranking. Here are the things you should focus

==> High quality guest posting (More relevant and author site is better)
==> Web 2.0 Thematic (Still work fine if you can utilize it)
==> PPT, PDF, Video sharing sites still work fine for me
==> Social bookmarks still work fine
==> Focus on creating tier 2 backlinks and if can create tier 3 too

Forum and blog commenting helps get viral, but not influence much on SEO. But activities on forums are still very useful for getting referral leads and create network. If you can create a good network with other bloggers, you may get more backlinks by using their blog.

Definitely guest posting, it works for our ompany with good profits. Find websites and blogs in your niche. Use pr-checker (there are a lot of free pr-checkers on the web) to see which of these blogs have equal or higher pr than your. Put high pr blogs on the list. Then make a list of topics and send them to blog owners. Ask if they want you to write article on any of these topics. If they agree - just write it and send to them. Ask them to attach dofollow link to your website in the text.

1. Guest Posting: Make a list of authority blogs in your niche and pitch a blog post idea to them. 5/10 will accept your post if it's resourceful enough. Make sure you get link juice from the author box and link to relevant article of yours within the submitted guest post. Most bloggers would tell you the can only accomodate a single do-follow link per guest post.

2. Link Outreach: This depends on your niche. If your niche is a very popular niche, it might be hard to use this method effectively because most of the authority blogs in popular niche understands SEO so you can't trick them into giving you backlink. BUt if your blog is in the less popular niche, you can make a list of blogs ranking for your desired keywords, then send a message to the webmaster telling them about your newly published post, and asking them to tell you what they think about the post, and possibly link to the post in their resource section.

3. Link baiting: This one is tough, and you would need some tools but it works all the time. In a way, it is similar to the link outreach, but it's not done directly. What you do with this method is to find pages ranking for your desired keyword, then analyse them and check where they're getting their own backlink. Once that is done, you would then send an outreach email to those linking to them, telling them that you recently published a better, recent and more comprehensive post and ask them to check it out and link to it if they like it.

4. Web 2.0: This is a little bit of black hat, and I hope it's not against the forum rules to share information like that. With this method, what you do is create several 2.0 properties for yourself online, then buy all the cheap links to point to that web 2.0, then from the web 2.0 you can link to your site. It's a little bit technical than this, but that's the summary.

5. Link sales: There are quality blogs on fiverr that would offer to give you a link on their blog for $5. Some of these blogs are good. You just have to look in the right direction.
