Very simply, the difference between the two is that one (the VPN) is a point to point connection using tunneling protocols (over the Internet) between a host (private network) and a client, and other (a VPS) is a virtual server sold by a web hosting provider.

To put in a simple word VPN ( which stand for Virtual Private Network ) is a private network (secured ) over a public network. E.g. Me and you can have a a VPN which will connect over the internet.

VPS ( Virtual Private Server ), is more a virtual machine that happened to be over a server ( a hosting company can have many of those over a single dedicated server.

a vpn is just something that changes the ip on your computer or an intermediary when you connect online. So it shows as if you're connecting from somewhere else. A VPS is a server, it's a small computer in the cloud you can access and run processes and software on. You can also use it to browse the net or work on it. They're popular for hosting websites or running software on the cloud so everyone in a company can access it.

VPS is Virtual Private Server .VPS Hosting comes with Dedicated resources and runs an isolated operating system to fulfill the Basic Needs of handling Multiple Applications.

A VPN is a networking option that uses the Internet to connect one network to another while securely keeping the information.

I want to add extensions to the comments above. VPS isn't a very secure method for anonymity on the internet since you'll directly connect to the hosting service's server and your data will leak. VPN is secure because you can use several VPN services at once increasing anonymity in the network. Recently, there's a hunt for people who use VPS and if they notice violators of the law among VPS users, they'll be punished. When a VPN isn't so easy to find and almost impossible. I also advise you to use a VPN on your smartphone.

VPS and VPN are two commonly confused terms. ... Essentially, a Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a form of web hosting, while a Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a service and technology that allows you to remain completely private and anonymous when using the web.

VPS vs VPN?

Even though a VPN and VPS allow choosing cost-effective ways to address various aspects of personal or business needs, they factor completely different things. It’s not about figuring out which one is tougher. It’s all about leveraging the right tool to reach your goal.

VPN protects your Internet connections, while VPS may help to keep your devices and/or computers protected.

Virtual private network technologies allow carrying out web activities privately and securely.

A VPS helps hosting websites and applications, where clients benefit from admin-level access to the server itself but still share computer resources with others.

VPS known as a Virtual private server and VPN is a virtual private network. VPS is hosting related terms, whereas VPN is a network-related term. The VPS provides you service for hosting your website which consists of dedicated server resources such as Operating system, control panel, CPU, RAM, HDD, etc. These are all as per your requirements like if you required windows OS on this server and it can be installed by the hosting provider.

VPN is simply we can say that a network provider, who has more servers across the globe and you can browse the internet as an anonymous person. This method of service can be used to hide from hackers and hackers are using them for not finding them.

So both concepts are related to the internet and you can choose the best service within the VPS and VPN.

Also, the companies are using the VPN for connecting their internal servers or any other applications, so that they can monitor the network and activity of the employee while in the VPN.

Apart from the phrase Virtual Privat and the fact that they both offer Internet service, they have little in common.

VPN protects your personal internet connections, VPS keeps your devices and/or computers safe. VPS providers do not allow you to install VPNs on their servers, and in other cases, significant reprogramming is required

Thanks for the explanation, up to this point I was constantly confusing VPN and VPS. However, I still don't know which one is better to choose.

This may be a mistake and the person wanted to know the difference between the VPS and VDS. These are types of hosting, but there is not much difference between them.

People often get confused between VPN and VPS because of the similar-sounding acronyms. VPS or Virtual Private Server is a server that has been divided into certain units based on different configurations through the process of virtualization.

Through VPS hosting, a person gets access to certain resources and services to host their website or application over the internet. Any web host can offer you VPS, however, it is up to you to find out which web host offers the best websites.

There are many review sites that you can check out for this information.

VPN is a simple technology that allows you to connect to an IP of a different location. There are many benefits of using a VPN like:
  • Added security layer
  • Stream blocked sites in your region
  • Avoid censorships
  • Prevent tracking of ISP
  • Unblock accounts like social media accounts, chat accounts
  • Work anonymously on the internet
  • Access data of different locations.
Hope that helped.

VPNs use encryption and a remote server to make all traffic anonymous. For example, businesses might use a remote employee on company property using the VPN to access internal content. For anonymity, you might use the VPN in public WiFi spots where you try to ensure other users are not collecting your personal information.

With a Virtual Private Server, you can use only as many of the host's resources as you need. This allows you to use the host's hardware but completely control it and restrict what others on the server can access - just like your dedicated server.
