Email Marketing or Social Media Marketing, which one works better?

I know that social media in this generation is powerful for generating traffic but email marketing is also a great way to promote your services, I have a few questions
Which is more effective to attract audience or better way to promote a product?
Which have highest in demand or have more employers that seeks?
And which makes a marketer more income and more expensive for a customer?

I tried to drive traffic from social media to my blog site to build email list but it is not easy.
What are the methods have you used to build email list from social media? buying their ads?

Highly target your market. Solve their problem. Give them the solution to their problem for joining your email list. It's actually extremely simple but most make it very difficult.

1. Discover your target markets biggest problem.
2. Solve that problem.
3. Give them the solution to their problem for free.
4. Bingo!

i mainly use social media in combination with SEO which holds effective for me for most projects not all though but most.

I have heard email lists are great and if you have a wonderful list you pretty much hold a good traffic source, it does take time to build a great list so i have heard, though i have not done so myself yet. I am looking to try out email lists in the future to see if it has more success with a few projects

But i agree with Rob's post above which i think has some good options to work with and what to aim/target for
