Making money by publishing ebooks?

My husband wrote an essay/short book and has sold a few copies on Amazon. It's not very profitable because he just put it out there to share with others and doesn't do it for the income. It was a one time thing and he probably makes a couple dollars a month.

But it got me thinking, I have written a few things and now I'm wondering if I should put them up for sale as well. I notice there are a lot more self published authors these days and I wonder how much money can be made from it.

I'm thinking I could write short novels targeted towards a niche market but I'm not sure if it's a good use of my time.

Has anyone here self published? What genres were the books you wrote? How much did you make? Was it mostly about creating new stories to expand your offerings, or was quality a huge part as well?

Thanks in advance for everyone's input, I'd love to hear some firsthand experiences.

Actually, giving away eBooks which have a link to your blog might be a really good marketing strategy. First of all, the book would have to be incredibly interesting (so it can go viral), Second, you would need to research ways to successfully share so it can be shared as much as possible.

Anyway, though, selling might be tough cause people are highly cynical. However, with reviews, you could get around the problem.

That's kind of a good idea. Offering free books with links leading back to my site, I would like to increase traffic. I think I've seen that with other sites but it's mostly the sites themselves offering the ebooks. Which I'm not sure why they do that and how it benefits the site themselves. Unless it's just creating a loop of traffic?

Try to sell the ebook in Amazon Kindle. it's the fastest and easiest way in my opinion. Especially if you got more and more traffic into the ebook, you'll be able to write more so it'll get publicity which will generates more income to you. There's even sites that promotes your ebook and they get their cut. It's some sort of a affiliate marketing. More traffic the more it'll be better for your revenue

Have you tried publishing with Bookrix? It's free of charge to publish your work, but they do take a tiny percentage of your sales. Your work will automatically be published on sites like Amazon, Google Play, and Barnes & Noble when you choose Bookrix to publish your work.

I just want to know, how much will you earn by publishing your work? I'd like to try to write some and publish it on Ebook but is it really profitable? I'm currently a Transcriptionist and need to do some other stuff to earn more. Thannks by the way for your post.

I also have a question on how to sell an e-book, and how do you publish it. Is it like you have to get an intellectual property rights or something like that? and do you need an approval for the publisher to have it published? can someone here help me, I'd also like to start selling an ebook.

Selling ebooks is a good idea but the problem is if we get sales. If we want to sell some copies of our ebooks it should be useful and have attractive title and cover. Selling on Amazon is a good idea.If you are not a writer you can buy some PLR ebooks or get them for free which you can find on google easily. You download those PLR ebooks and read them carefully then write the ebook in your own words. PLR means private label right. We can reuse or sell PLR ebooks. The author give us right to sell his ebooks if we can but to put on Amazon market we have to rewrite the ebook in our own words. Rewriting is not difficult if you don't want to rewrite then you can hire someone on fiverr or other somewhere else who can do it for you.

Hi, HipAlbatross! From what you have said that your husband has been earning even though it's just a couple of dollars a month, it is still worth something. If you make a couple of your own writings or stories. I guessed you will get a nice income from it. A couple of dollars multiplied by your stories or articles or stories well that will some it all for you. I am also will try to published just hoping to finish even one.

The biggest thing is not writing the ebook or even getting it published - it's promoting it to enough people. If you publish through Kindle then once you get to a good number of daily sales then Amazon itself will do the pushing for you, but you have to provide the initial impetus for sales. There are several people who specialise in promoting particular genres of ebook - fiction & non-fiction (for a fee of course).

You cannot lose anything by trying (except a bit of your time and a few dollars of promotional advertising), especially through Amazon and if your book ends up being more than 20 pages, consider doing a print-on-demand version too. It's still free to do and can be another revenue stream.

If you are really a writer, you must first know what is your target market and where can you possibly market them (like proper websites and connections). I think at first it is better to promote ebook so that you would know the pulse of the public as well as earning money. If you have enough information then you may publish your own ebook. Most of the trending topics are romance, life, and fictions. But right now political issues are getting to earn its hype so might consider it.

Actually, earning money through posting ebooks are usually made by people who are writers, story tellers and other characteristics that author may possesed. They can sell through amazon and many people buy it for some reason. So in that way you can earn money through ebooks selling.
