As a semi-technical person who has tried a few different platforms, I've tried shopify and didnt really get on with it but for a small site with a limited range of product it appeared good. We had prestashop and moved to magento (which turned out to be a mistake - prior to Magento 2's release ) it was so expensive, we ended up going with Visualsoft here in the UK, they do a shared success program (they now call it Optimum) where they build, host and maintain your ecommerce site for you, in essence we got onto their program for a monthly fee only slightly higher than our dedicated server for magento cost us per month
so if its a small site, small range go with shopify or something like that, for a big site where you are technically deficient like us something like the plan above - might only be useful for ppl here in the UK though

From my experience, shopify is easier to manage. Magento seems to be stable but need to time and $$ to manage it!

I will add that even though Shopify is indeed a rock solid platform, it is not cheap. Between their setup fee to their monthly fees, transaction fees and so on, the expenses are staggering. As far as I can tell, Shopify has the highest overall transaction fees, relative to any other processor I have personally compared them with.
