I have Android mobile OS 2.3 , is that possible can I update Os like 4.0 or 4.2 using my phone ? if it's possible please let me know

Can i know what is your current Android mobile ?
it depends on your current phone, if you phone has enough requirements about configurations like Ram usage, cpu speed,..etc..you can update to higher android OS easily.

My phone is Qmobile

1 Ghz Processor
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
Dual SIM
512 MB

you should not update higher version of android Os to 4.0 or 4.2. I used one with configurations with Dual core processor, 512 ram on 4.0 but sometimes I must turn off more effects on themes and phone was running slowly when openning more applications. That's my suggestions
Anyone here has some other advices ?

That depends on the model of the phone ,because both 4.0 and 4.0.1 are designed for higher ended mobiles,but you can use custom rom's which may look like original
