Does H1 still help in SEO ?

Seem all websites that I has been browsing, they are using H1 tag on its page and I thought H1 is very important for on-page SEO. In your opinion, H1 must put on webpage because it's necessary for SEO, If we don't put it on each webpage then what's the happen and our on-page SEO will not effect ?

Any thoughts ?

As well as i think there is no difference before and after the update related to the h1 tag. It is going to play the same important role as before.
