This Google update was called the Vince update because it was a change made by a programmer at Google named Vince. Google refers to this update as not a full update and as just a change. Google changes its algorithms 300-400 times per year. The goal of this change was to help brands large and small rank for their branded keywords. The idea is that Google looks at authority, trust, reputation as ranking factors. These are really other ways of saying links. The Vince update really put more emphasis on links. Having more unique links from a greater number of sources means better rankings.

Vince is nothing but Google update named after changes made by Vince programmer in Google ranking algorithm in 2009.

I don't remember seeing a list of quality sites that have been hit hard by Panda.
if it were vince we wouldn't have seen the false positive panda hits we saw, as some of those sites benefitted from the vince update, I think of vince as a whitelist, and panda as a plague.

Google Vince update is for big brand ranking, and reducing ranking of small brand/sites which are of lower quality
