I'm sorry but Local SEO is a lot more then adding your account to Google Places.. it's optimising your website for local listing... so you can get on top of the local rankings.. just by spreading your contact information on your website and on other pages.

The best thing to do for local SEO is to submit your business details to as many business directories as possible.

Business directories are site like Yelp, Four Square, Hot Frog, etc.

I have a list of over 200 directories.

There are automated tools that allow you to submit your website to hundreds of online business directories known as "Yellow Pages" and such.
Lance Bechmann made a good point regarding Google Local SEO. I'd suggest you to read his reply.

Overall, I would like to add something extra; don't use Google Local SEO to promote affiliate offers since it's not really going to work out well. The purpose of Local SEO is to raise the awareness of your real life business (established company).
