Write code from scratch or modifying code already created?

Which one do you prefer to do when you do as a programmer, write code from scratch or modify code already created??
I prefer writing code from scratch to modifying from already codes, it helps me easy to control which I want to edit and changing.
But in any case, I also editted from existed ones because it make me finish my project quickly and in short time. I don't have to do any more, jest edit a bit and archive what I want with changes.

I use both, depends on my requirements, with big projects I will use hand codes and edit when I integrate some functions to my system like scripts, I will use existed ones, fast and effective.

Well i'm new to PHP programming so right now I buy cheap scripts and modify them. I'm addicted to this right now kind of holding me back from actually learning to code from scratch....

It depends what are the requirement If you work on old site then modifying code is necessary if you work on new site then start from scratch.
