This is to general of a question. Could you maybe suggest a niche. SEO is different for every niche.

If I could generalize it I would say that content and social media are something that all websites need for SEO value in 2015.

When you get in to diversity and avoiding footprints, these strategies could change from niche to niche.

My niches are about travel, resell themes and web hosting and blogging. I mean each site on a specific niche.

I guess you would need to ask the question "What is SEO" first.

SEO is relevant signals to Google. Shares, backlinks, traffic, etc....

Notice the keyword there was "relevant". So that's why SEO is different for every niche. Some niches require more social networking, some niches require local organization and chamber of commerce backlinks, some niches require comments (like blogs), and etc...

Take a blog for instance. It's send numerous signals to Google. Comments, posts, social shares, on-site social signals, and so on. If one of these elements are missing it raises a flag.

So a noob buying backlinks blindly because they heard high PR was the way to go is going to get a slap because theyre not buying EVERY signal. It's like they put together a puzzle with a couple pieces.

a niche like Land Surveying would require the local city and organization backlinks.
