Hey webmasters,
I am finding writers on freelancer, odesk, iwriter to write articles on my blog..but I get confused about what is standard rate for 500 word article to pay for writers that make them accept my rate?
What is your advice when hiring a writer and pay right rate for them?

Hi Miken,

It depends on various factors such as if the writer is a native speaker of the language in question, geographical location etc...

Obviously the less you pay the worse the quality it will be - the worst being from $5 - $10.... For a quality article, written by a native speaker I would expect to pay around $20-25 as a minimum and upto $40 and more for epic content exceeding 1000 of words... as you know it all depends on the word count...

Either case its going to take time to identify your best writers - so indeed it helps if you can start on a smaller price and then offer to increase the rate if the quality is good... With that said I would begin the bid at $10 for 500 words and see what you get with hinting that you may increase the amount based on quality of work provided i.e. $15-$20 per article... Or should you want high quality straight off the bat - then seek out native speakers but be prepared to pay much more....

An alternative approach would be to accept lower payments for lower quality - but then you would have to spend additional time to improve the content and correct grammar... or hire a second writer to review the first article with adding corrections and more info to further develop it.... In every case test for plagiarism e.g. copyscape etc

Hope that helps!

Cheers,

Sid

Around $15 should be fine for a quality 500 words article.

I write articles on microjob sites, as part of my online work.
For example, Fiverr and SEO Clerks. Fiverr is set at five bucks, no matter what your service is, until you are up to a level two. That is where you would be able to add extras to your gigs, expanding your gigs.

SEO Clerks you have options on the services you want to list, as you can set your price as high as $100.00. My services there are writing, which my rates start at five and up. I have other services that surround adult sites, etc at different prices.

I guess what I'm here to say, is that there are legit people, who CAN read AND write awesome content at the " worst" price. Don't assume, that just because it's for five or ten bucks, that it's crap. You might just be surprised at what you find.

Why do I have different prices on my NaturalWriter website? That's very simple to answer. There is a difference between online and offline. Those prices are set for the offline working world in my province. I just got a job application 3hrs away from me this morning through my website.

If you are just starting out, you may have to start out on micro job sites just to get your name out there. To charge very high prices online, you have to be able to prove that you have the experience to charge so much, and I'm not talking about putting fake testimonials, or having fake screenshots. I'm talking about writing fluent languages without many mistakes. The readers have to be able to SEE that you can actually do the work by providing samples for the buyers to look over.

Once you get some good experience under your belt, you will be able to adjust your prices accordingly, just remember, the higher the price, the harder it will be to get orders. Unfortunately we are in an ONLINE world were CHEAP seems to be the focal point, and different world currency. All challenges for anyone, regardless of their experience level.

Here is a link to a thread I created sometime ago that maybe some benefit for you. Add whatever you would like to it!

I would say $15 if you are outsourcing from an offshore marketing agency. But you can even bargain for less if you reach professional writers through post your project sites...
