Links from user profiles?

I saw more SEOers doing search engine optimization by linking their customers' website into user profile with a shore bio.
It's worth for SEO when doing that?

Any thoughts?

Those are not SEOs doing that. Those are just bad backlinkers calling themselves SEOs.

That is a horrible way to build links.

I dont think so at all. Google, and the other engines have gotten really good and tell what links are easy to place spam links.

SEO takes time, work, and dedication. Take the easy way out and it's likely to but you in the end.

If we're talking about profiles on websites like Yelp, Manta, and other business directories then it will certainly help. If we're talking about generic profiles like YouTube, Blog Websites, Twitter..etc. Then it can certainly still help, it really depends if the link is dofollow or not. Others here have said it doesn't help, but I bet they are linking to their website from their Twitter profile, YouTube profile, Facebook profile..etc.

They really do not give any benefit. They are weak PR n/a and PR 0 links. They are especially useless on sites that require you to be logged in to see user profiles.

Profile links were really the first type of links that Google's spam team targeted in mass quantities. In May of 2011, the year before Penguin was released, they sent out over 750,000 messages through Webmaster Tools warning people of unnatural links. Most evidence pointed to these notices being largely based on profile links. There were some other types of links too, but pretty much everyone who was using profile links at that time reported receiving the notice. Nothing happened at that time as far as penalties, but it was a warning of what was to come.

Then Penguin hit.

So yeah, I would pretty much stay away from profile links.

Look, if you create 5 of them it is no big deal. If you create 500 of them, like people were often doing with forum profile links, you can expect to get reamed by Google at some point.

I wasn't referring to Google, I meant telling people to stay away from profile links screws people over. Guess I'm not worried about it then.

Actually, it protects them from doing something stupid. I would be hard pressed to think of a more useless link. Then when you factor in the risk with profile links... just not worth it at all.

I agree that Profile link types are harmful in great quantities because it obviously looks unnatural to Google, but a certain amount of do-follow to no-follow link diversity is a good thing in my opinion because it looks natural. Sure if you are performing 100% by the book SEO then you will pick up both eventually.

I have ranked sites without ever creating a single nofollow link. There is nothing "natural" about them. There is no need to create them. Like I said, it is a big myth that people just keep spitting out of their mouth.

Yes, creating profiles in social sites, news sites, bussines sites etc. will you help you website but not much, i mean it will have less impact on ranking... you better do blog submission, article submission etc. for high ranking.

profile links en mass are the dumbest thing you can do, sure as hell dont over run your link profile with them. for our campaigns and to diversify your link types going to your site, only use a few of them from high PR and authoritative sites that look natural. google knows ppl naturally create profiles on sites that are legit businesses and link back to thier site doing self promotion, as long as you do the above you will be fine. ive crushed the ecigs niche, payday loans niche, car insurance niches with a good and diverse campaign and we use them to diversify our link profiles out with no issues. they are just background noise and dont really do a whole lot for you otherwise on their own. hope that helps

In my experience, they do help with SEO. BUT the thing is that you can't have your profile be an orphan page. I'd make a forum profile and link to my website after commenting, liking, and creating a couple dozen of posts.

I think Joey is right, you need to interact with the website somehow to get the authority to your profile, then it is a good way of linkbuilding. The bad way is to create a profile and leave it as you created it and think it will help you .

Hahaha...! Yeah, I experience the same to you..! I found an SEO team tried to create a lot of fake profiles and link to their customer website.

It could benefit to your SEO, but just for a short term..., whenever fake profiles were identified those will be remove or spam. Hence, you traffic will don't because you got a lot of links from spam link.

It 100% guarantee to damage your website...

Actually, This method still work. but you need build profiles on many different domains.
