Just WooCommerce is all I use. It links up with PayPal for free. But if you want to accept credit card payments then you're going to need a payment gateway. I use Braintree.

There are tons of extensions for woocommerce that cost money. Nothing is impossible with woocommerce though.

I would also like to vote for woo commerce. It's a very good extension to really help yiu setting up an ecommerce site. You can spend money if yiu really need to, but as far as I know yiu do not have to spend any money to have a site

Sure, you can Google "best ecommerce plugins for wordpress" and you will get a lot of conflicting answers. The benefit to a forum is you can have a discussion about the various options and followup with other questions if needed.

Their is no perfect answer. The OP is trying to determin the perfect solution for his needs. Google is not going to do that for you!

woocommerce and easy digital downloads are my favourite, but there are tons of plugins for e-commerce, you might be better off trying some for yourself.

woocommerce free but its push you to buy the plugin

I agree. The quickest way to get confused is to ask Google. There is a lot of info available and a lot of it is useless. Ask your peers on the forum that are actually using e-commerce plugins.

I'm using WP e-Store. Sure, it costs something, but I find it less confusing than woocommerce and it has a ton of free plug-ins available so you can customize your shopping cart the way you want.
