I would actually say the complete opposite is true. Backlinks let you overcome poor onsite SEO pretty easily, especially considering that they are the #1 ranking factor out there.

This has been proven many times. One of the more famous examples was a few years ago when someone ranked a blank page for "Make money online".

I'm not going to say that onsite factors are not important. They are, and they should not be ignored. However, great onsite SEO alone is not going to rank you for anything that is very competitive. And by rank you, I mean put you in a position where you will actually get traffic.
I think You should be reading little more with understanding... I will write what I said once again...

For people who knows nothing about SEO, backlinks are the last thing they should be learning about. You can have 1,000's of backlinks, but if you have poor onsite SEO... then it is a waste... Please guys, do not give crappy advices if you have no idea about the matter!
I meant that they can have zillion quality backlinks that does not spread thru whole site, but are only sitting on one or few page... that's a waste, because you are not earning as much money as you should.

You first make a foundation of the house... you don't make the roof in the beginning.

For a term with no competition, yes. For a term with low competition using social signals, yes. For a moderately competitive term, most likely not. There are other way besides backlinks to generate rank, but backlinks are of course the most effective and usually necessary to rank against competition.

Not agree with you.
According to his question, He said " He don't want to build backlinks for his blog site, it consumed him more time for that. ". that doesn't mean, You can't rank without creating backlinks.
If you don't want to create backlinks then You will only need to create something which can attract natural backlinks. When your content will have natural backlinks then Your content will automatically start ranking in Google. Also It is known that frequently updated blogs are more likely to rank well in Google. So you also have to update your blog regularly. ;)

You need a combination of good, well-written article and quality backlinks to rank in Google.

I would recommend building yourself a good PBN without footprints.

Of course, you do get high with limited number of back links. Quality and unique contents are matters nowadays. So if you share unique articles then you will probably get decent rank, but back links also be generated at the same time from where you share your contents.
But every rank 1 website having mush enough back links to got that position.

You need to create great content and then get people talking about your content. The 'people talking about your content' are essentially your organic backlinks.

I was thinking about this question of "Can I rank in Google without backlinks?"

Let's just assume you can. We will just pretend that everything that comes out of Neil Patel's mouth is 100% true (obviously it is not) and works amazingly well.

Here is a better question than if you can rank without backlinks. Why would you want to rank your site without backlinks? Even if just creating a great site works, in almost all cases it is going to take months, if not years, to rank if you are just going to hope that visitors notice your site and build links for you. Yes, I know many have been brainwashed by Neil and other's ideas of content marketing, but you have to remember that he is working with multi-million dollar, well known and established brands. Of course they can just build a new page and people will take notice of it. Will the same idea work for your little blog that nobody knows about?

To me it is the equivalent of opening a restaurant and just hoping that people take notice and tell everyone they know about it without doing any advertising. Although, I would argue that the restaurant, even as difficult as that industry is, has a much better chance at success than you do.

I don't see any website that getting rank on google without backlinks. And I don't see social signals impacted search engine ranking at this time. Ofcourse content length is not ranking factor. Some guys advised can get rank without backlinks by high content length, but I saw that they get rank with huge backlinks, even they get huge backlinks using this forum.....lol

An established powerful Backlink is known as an online vote. A politician defeats opposite candidates by huge votes. Like that we need votes to get better ranking on search engines.

Every online business and service providers get powerful backlinks after website lunch, right now how to pass their website with zero backlinks!!!!

Google is really after the quality of website content. However, off page seo is also important in ranking and link building is included in off page seo techniques.

I don't want to build backlinks for my blog site, it consumed me more time for that.

my question is, I can get ranked in google without backlinks or just some?
You can get ranked in google without backlink if you don't have competitors. If you have competitors, you should have backlinks...

If you want to rank for any keyword that has any competition and that can drive traffic to your site then you will need back links and the better quality the back links the better the ranking in the search engine results.

If you want to rank a site in Google without back links then forget about it unless you are targeting an ultra obscure keyword that has zero competition that nobody searches for and that receives no traffic.

You can, only if you have a social media active page with a great number or active users. Otherwise it's a hard thing to do.Also - you need quality ! A lot of quality .Do you have a quality so great that it would attract people just by word of mouth ? Since you are at start, i think not . So i friendly advise you to work a bit on the backlink things or find Fiverr gigs for this, pay a certain amount and you're good to go .Just be carefull because just 10% of those people bring do-follow backlings.

I read all discussions but really surprised with all answers. This is bullshit to say we can get rank with links. Post quality content and make it viral on social media then tell me how can you connect this with Google Ranking. By posting content on blog or sharing on social sites you just make it popular on social sites. Even you can get much traffic from social sites But not from Google ranking...

So it is necessary to create back links...

Thanks

You have to create back links from high authority sites to get ranking. Only content will not help you to get ranked.

Why do people insist on repeating such stupid crap? It does not matter if your content is 60 words, 600 words, or 6000 words.

If you are going to respond to someone and be rude to them (as you often like to do for some reason) then at least explain yourself thoroughly when you tell them that they are wrong. Your answer, as you have written it, is very misleading to people and will leave them more confused than if they hadn't read it at all. That isn't very helpful for anyone. Why not just explain yourself thoroughly so that they understand why you are saying what you are saying?

I know what you mean. I guarantee the vast majority of people reading that post will have no idea what you mean. They will be befuddled.

I don't believe for a moment that SEOPub is being intentionally rude at all... Blunt yes - but in the context of the topic being st**** cr** which is not directed to the person... Its a clear difference... No one should be offended at all... I think the response is partly due to frustration when such topics are repeated over and over again... I suggest that this matter be taken off-line...
