Affiliate marketing can be considered as the modern version of door-to-door selling, so to speak. It is an effective way of spreading the word and sell units at the same time, with the additional upside of not being as intrusive (if done right, of course). In order to ensure a navigation clear of spammy ads and out-of-place promotion, it's easy to imagine you have to pick products inherent to your website's niche, which also increases the chances of closing a deal.
However, even then, it's not always easy to choose the right producers to affiliate to. This is especially true when starting out, when you'll want to start small and to make it subtle (after all, making money can't be your only objective).
How do you find the right product to promote? Do you just look for companies which sell specific products close to your niche or do you go with bigger companies (e.g. Amazon) which sell products of all kinds, but generate less revenue because of how easily accessible they can be outside of your website?
