Facebook is the most influential social media used by all demographics. Having Facebook friends started with your real friends and continues to a common friend, and goes on. Having a big number of followers on Facebook will get you to thousand of "likes". The reason why they have a large scale of followers is because of connections. They might be working in a modeling agency, or they might be a member of different popular clubs. It's determined by how popular you are, how many Facebook friends you have and how active you are on Facebook. There isn't much you can do to make yourself more popular other than interacting with a lot of people and hoping that they find you interesting. Some people use the organic way where in they will tag their friends with that photo even if their friends aren't in the photo at all, the benefits of using this technique is like a domino effect since the photo will also shows on her friend's feed giving it more exposure to people.

Given the facebook changed in feeds algorithm it will be hard to just rely if your friends and follower see the photo you uploaded because not everyone will surely see it. But more likes more exposure so you gotta post something interesting most importantly.

Popularity plays a major role in increasing likes, if you have more followers then you would get more likes. BTW, there are some groups where you can exchange likes but they are of no use.
