XML sitemap is for robot and not for human; it is the one you need to create for searches engines. It is made using a markup language automated programs understand.

HTML sitemap is made for human. It helps your visitor map your site to find their targeted pages. It is less useful for SEO. But it still helps as its do follow links will interest searches engines!
