How to Avoid Auto Spam Registrations in Forum?

Hi there, my friend has created a forum since some months ago but he must close forum for reason more spams on his forum and his can not manage or stopping auto spam on forum. He ask me ways to avoid auto spam on forum but I have no experience on that.

Anyone can give me some best ways/ideas to stop forum spams ?
