The difference between Pingback and Trackback?

Hi folks,
I don't know how to use pingback and trackback in my wordpress blog, are there any advantages when using these functions and what is the difference between pingback and trackback?

Here is a good explanation:

Trackbacks and pingbacks are methods for alerting blogs that you have linked to them. The difference between them is:

Trackbacks – must be created manually, and send an excerpt of the content.
Pingbacks – are automated and dont send any content.

As you will see I am not a fan of pings/trackbacks due to the risk of stolen content, spam commenting and DDOS attacks...
